The Faces Behind Camp Timbers

Brian Miller

Executive Director

Brian has served as the Executive Director of YMCA Camp Timbers since 2016. With a passion for the outdoors, leadership, and youth development, he and his wife, Mary, first worked together at camp in seasonal leadership roles during college. Prior to his current role, Brian spent five years teaching middle school science and social studies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in education from Concordia University.

Brian’s love for camp extends beyond his professional role—this summer marks his fifth year as a camper parent, further fueling his commitment to providing exceptional experiences for others at camp.

In his role as Executive Director, Brian thrives in the variety of work, finding joy in watching campers and staff grow and succeed. His favorite moments at camp include jumping into the kitchen to make pancakes, engaging with campers and staff during walks through the camp, and capturing photos to showcase camp in action.

Outside of camp, Brian enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the great outdoors through hiking, backpacking, running, and traveling. He’s also passionate about giving back, volunteering with his children’s sports teams, supporting youth programs at his church, and serving in a leadership capacity within the Michigan YMCA Camp Network.

Brian is always happy to connect on partnership inquiries, sponsorship opportunities, scholarship donations, or to help families learn more about YMCA Camp Timbers.

Morgan Betters

Program Director

Morgan started as Program Director in 2022. She has spent more than 15 summers at YMCA Camp Timbers as a camper, seasonal staff member, and now program director. Morgan has a recreation degree from Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!) and has spent more than 10 summers at YMCA overnight camps and youth day camp programs around Michigan. Morgan loves the opportunity to mentor staff and campers at the same camp that made such an impact on her. At camp, Morgan’s favorite ways to spend an hour are lifeguarding boating, leading a Ragger’s (goal setting) ceremony or singing a slow song at campfire.

While not at camp Morgan lives in Pinconning, MI with her husband Stephen, son Marshall, and goldendoodle Winston. In her free time, she loves to travel with her family, bake (especially sourdough) cookies and pies, shop at farmers markets, and cook elaborate meals.

Contact Morgan for all registration questions—including Heter Band Camp capacity--, school and partner group inquires, and seasonal staffing.”
